MELO, Stella Maria Carvalho de e AGUIAR, Eveline Porto Sales. ADVENTURE TOURISM IN TAQUARUÇU - TO: ACTIVITIES AND RISKS. Tur., Visão e Ação [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.280-299. ISSN 1983-7151. http://dx.doi.org/10.14210/rtva.v18n2.p280-299.
This study analyzes how adventure activities are being developed in Taquaruçu - TO, in terms of the risks to its practitioners. The survey was conducted during the months of August to November 2015, taking as reference the ABNT Technical Standards for certification of adventure activities, considering the classification, guidance and inventory of hazards and risks. Visits were made to four major waterfalls, as well as their access trails and lookouts in the area. It was found that three of the waterfall trails should be guided, due to the severity of the environment, while the other should be self-guided. However, none of the trails comply with all the rules determined by the ABNT. The practices of rapel and ziplining also failed to comply with all the regulations. It was therefore observed that these activities are not being carried out in the safest way, posing a risk for practitioners. This work demonstrates a weakness of adventure tourism, in terms of the risks identified, and proposes partnerships aimed at further studies in the region, training professionals in the sector, and promoting the practice of the activity, focusing on the quality and reliability of the services provided.
